CLCI Sponsors: CMA Workshop by Robert Kaplan on Strategy
Execution in Non-Profit and Public Sector Enterprises
Dr. Robert Kaplan, co-creator of the Balanced Scorecard,
conducted this one day workshop at Toronto Marriott Airport
Hotel on February 20, 2009. Over 75 CMA members participated
along with some members of the CLCI TEN (The Executive Network).
Participants’ evaluation indicated that the workshop was very
well received.
Robert Kaplan defined strategy management and highlighted the
importance of leadership involvement in the change process. He
presented the link between planning, budgeting and strategy and
the critical role of the Office of Strategy Management. Few
people have contributed as significantly to the art and
especially the science of business strategy as Robert Kaplan.
His Balanced Scorecard is the premier tool for aligning a
company’s current actions with its strategic goals. This
performance management system helps business leaders clarify
their corporate vision and align people, business units, and
resources with a unified strategy. In his research and writing,
speaking and consulting, Robert develops ways to link cost and
performance management systems to strategy implementation and
operational excellence.

Special Guest speaker, Ms. Sophie de Villers,
Vice President, Strategy Management Canadian Blood Services
presented an overview on how Canadian Blood Services has
integrated the Balance Scorecard for effective Strategy
Execution and the role of the strategy management office to
guide the critical strategy execution process.
As the exclusive sponsor to this workshop, CLCI offered a
complimentary organizational assessment to all participants. The
assessment illustrates management and employee alignment in the
critical areas of strategy, design and culture; and helps pin
point the best opportunities for strategic business improvement.
CLCI’s process of ‘Creating a Strategy-Focused Organization’ is
built around the five principles propounded by Drs. Robert
Kaplan and David Norton, the creators of the Balanced Scorecard.
CLCI has been able to perfect the process after field testing it
with many of our clients. The procedure is supported by
easy-to-follow models, templates, slide presentations and
workbooks. |
